Why do footballers cut their socks?

IFAB Law 4 asks that any tape or material applied or worn on the outside of the sock is the same colour as the part of the sock it covers. That is why it makes sense to match your grip socks and sock sleeves. If you're unsure, ask the referee or your club.

Football sock sleeves, also known as cut football socks: footless socks you wear over your grip socks. Your team colour stays on top, the sleeve covers your shin pad and the grip does its job under your foot, inside the boot.

How to wear them. Put on your grip socks first, regular or short. Place the mini shin pad on the front of your shin, then pull the sleeve up over sock and shin pad: it holds it in place. For extra hold, add shin pad adhesive strips.

Colours. Black, white, blue, navy, red, yellow and green. Sleeve and sock are two separate pieces, so you can match the sleeve to your team and pick the grip sock colour on its own. One size, EU 35-50. The sleeve itself is plain, with no grip: the grip is only on the sock.

Care. Machine wash at 30 °C on a delicate cycle, inside out; no fabric softener or bleach, no tumble dryer: hang to dry.

Football sock sleeves (footless socks) for grip socks
