What size mini shin guards should you choose?

Short answer: most of our mini shin guards come in 8, 10 and 12 cm. 8 cm is super minimal, 10 cm is the balance between lightness and coverage, 12 cm covers more. If you are unsure, 10 cm is the middle ground. If coverage matters to you, choose the largest size you wear comfortably under the sock.

What changes between 8, 10 and 12 cm

  • 8 cm, super minimal: the smallest. It covers less of the shin, keep that in mind.
  • 10 cm, the balance: our pick if you cannot decide.
  • 12 cm, more coverage: for more shin covered without going to a full-size guard.
  • EVA foam 9x6 or 15x9 cm: soft material in two formats. The 15x9 covers more.

How to choose: three questions

  1. How much coverage do you want? More centimetres, more shin covered.
  2. How does it feel under the sock? People choose minis for freedom of movement. Pick the size you forget you are wearing, as long as it stays covered and in place.
  3. How will you keep it in place? Use adhesive straps, or grip socks with sock sleeves on top.

The ruler test

Hold a ruler against your shin, halfway between ankle and knee, and see how much 8, 10 and 12 cm would cover.

The Laws in one line

Law 4 gives no minimum size in centimetres. It asks for suitable material, an appropriate size and shin guards covered by the socks, and makes the player responsible. The referee checks equipment before the match and your league may add its own rules.
